Fiona Crean, Ombudsman was appointed in November 2008 by the Toronto City Council as Toronto's first Ombudsman. The office began to offer services on April 6, 2009. Ms. Crean brings to this position decades of professional experience dedicated to fairness in government, human rights and social justice. Kwame Addo, Director of Investigations and Conflict Resolution,brings more than 18 years of complaint resolution experience as an investigator at Ombudsman Ontario. Trained as a biologist, he initially investigated complaints about the Ministries of Natural Resources, Environment and Ontario Hydro. More recently, Kwame led several systemic investigations, including the Special Investigations Unit and Newborn Screening.

Marie Chen, Legal Adviser and Senior Investigator is a lawyer with considerable experience in administrative and anti-discrimination law at appellate courts and administrative tribunals. She worked for many years as a community legal clinic lawyer conducting test case litigation in systemic racism, human rights and equality rights. Prior to that, she practiced immigration and refugee law for over eight years.

Jackie Correia, Ombudsman Representative, began her career in the photocopy room at Ontario’s Ombudsman Office, she built her knowledge of record keeping standards and became a Records Archive Technician. She was on the Records Council, helping to establish the first electronic guidelines for the Ontario Public Service. She also worked as a Client Access Representative.

Zalina Deodat, Ombudsman Representative, has extensive experience in complaints resolution in a variety of intake roles, including the management of a complaints call centre in 2005-2006.

Lauren Hollywood, Administrative Assistant, worked on a contract for 
the City's Integrity Commissioner and prior to that she was an executive assistant to a partner of a Toronto immigration law firm. With a degree in English, Lauren has considerable experience in the retail business.

April Lim, Research and Policy Consultant, brings extensive experience in public sector policy with skills in evaluation and trends analysis. April's background is in Social Work where she specialized in research, policy, and statistical data analysis. She has worked for the Ontario Government, United Way Toronto and the City of Toronto in various capacities doing research, evaluation, policy analysis and project management work.

Andrew Sunstrum, Ombudsman Investigator, joins the team after ten years as an investigator at the Canadian Human Rights Commission. Prior to that, Andrew worked for the Canadian University Press as its Ontario bureau chief. He is a trained mediator and volunteers at Culturelink.

Kate Zavitz, Ombudsman Investigator, brings investigation and conflict resolution skills from her legal and academic training. Kate represented low-income, injured workers as a legal aid clinic lawyer and worked in private practice with a focus on labour and employment law. She has degrees in psychology, social justice and equity studies.
